All Things Barbecue is looking for an experienced and personable Outdoor Living Designer to join our local design team. This full-time, in-person role will focus primarily on in-store and on-site design consultations, with a secondary emphasis on supporting ecommerce design projects.
In this role, you’ll design customized outdoor living spaces—from patio layouts and furniture arrangements to fully integrated outdoor structures featuring kitchens, seating areas, and entertainment zones. Note: This position does not include landscape design.
We’re looking for someone with several years of relevant design experience and a strong portfolio to match. A background in construction is highly preferred, as is the ability to communicate and collaborate directly with clients. This is a customer-facing role.
Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Meet with customers in our showroom or on-site to understand their outdoor living goals, needs, and budget.
- Use SketchUp to create 3D renderings and layout plans for outdoor living spaces, including structures, kitchens, furniture arrangements, and lighting/electrical considerations.
- Develop and present design concepts and revisions, ensuring functional, stylish, and buildable solutions.
- Collaborate with in-house sales, installation, and project management teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- Build strong customer relationships through excellent communication and service, becoming a trusted advisor in their outdoor living journey.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of outdoor living products, including furniture, structures, appliances, materials, and design trends.
- Manage multiple design projects concurrently, meeting deadlines and exceeding customer expectations.
- Serve as the local brand ambassador for outdoor living design—supporting showroom merchandising, events, and educational efforts as needed.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in outdoor living, interior, or architectural design, with a portfolio showcasing completed projects.
- Proficiency in SketchUp is required; additional experience with design software (e.g., Layout, AutoCAD, or Revit) is a plus.
- Strong construction knowledge or background is strongly preferred, with an understanding of how design translates to real-world building.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a people-first mindset.
- Confidence in customer-facing roles, including presentations and consultations.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
- Flexible and adaptable, able to shift between local retail clients and ecommerce-based design support when needed.
